The little racket they have going on now is that they are contracted with DCFS & will happily assist an adoptee trying to locate their records or birth family at the small cost of the adoptee waiting the rest of their life on the info! DCFS pays them to do the work- the longer it takes, the more they get paid! And now, convienently, they have less people doing all the work- BRILLIANT. I was told today by MAC that the process could take up to 6 months before an adoptee will see any results. Hope nobody's life depends on that information! SAD, SAD, SAD...... It is the reason why the brokers who sold my daughter flew me from my home state (where they had been prohibited from conducting business) to IL. They wanted to take advantage of conservative laws that gave them all the power and me none (course, at 17 yo I had no knowledge of this). In recent years, IL (through the work of groups like White Oak Foundation, Midwest Adoptoin Center and Rep. Fiegenholtz) have been fighting major battles trying to bring IL into this century. Its not easy. You should read some of their legal records. Mind blowing the crap they come up with.
