You write so well what I can't begin to articulate. My adoptive mom's insecurity hurts me to no end. My mother-in-law was "mom" to me from day one, and even that bothered her. She can't stand to hear me say anything good about her. I get the exact same body language that I do when I talk about my first mom: the stiffening body, the pursed lips, the changed subject. I love my mother-in-law so much, and that causes my adoptive mom pain. Egads. Theresa - all grown up and no one's little blank slate doll any longer. Thank you so much for this. I don't want any of us to be afraid of our parents; I don't want that fear to hold ANYONE back from finding out information that is a basic right of anyone who is NOT adopted.
