Did you think I was going to say “No?”
I just finished watching the DMC story. In a word, my reaction is “WOW!” Also a bit of an “ow.” When he asked to meet her and she said yes and then asked if he thought she was going to say no, I was in tears.
I enjoyed it a lot though. Some of his lines were so funny. (private eye for the adopted guy.) Watching him search and go thru trying to find his mom’s name. The phone call where the lady told him he would “that would never happen” about getting access to his sealed birth certificate. I wanted to scream “who the heck do you think you are telling one of us we can’t have our stuff!!!”
It’s cool though that VH1 put this on, to show his story in such a light. The happiness, the pain, the insecurity, the fear, the missing chapter, the reunion. Good luck D, I wish you the best.

I’m sorry I couldn’t get to see it. He sounds great. Open, honest, sad and witty - this kind of coverage is a good plug for open records too.
Kudos to him.
I heard another good report from someone who gave the bio-mom a thumbs up as well. She said she was cool.
I can understand the “ow” factor.
Here’s hoping for you :-)

I just happened to catch it while staying up late on Saturday night. I’m not an adoptee but have always been a hip hop fan and drawn more to the show for that rather then the adoption story. However, as I watched I was drawn in, watching the great figures of hip hop be vulnerable, going to therapy, dealing with his life being turned upside down- it was moving.

Yeah. W”ow”. I have his website linked in my bookmarks, and I keep going back and watching the video “Just Like Me”, and every time I watch it, I cry oceans.

The whole thing was amazing. I use the word validating a lot but when you go through this stuff it is so important to know that other people out there GET IT!!!!
And that video…….there just are no words.
I was so glad his mother was receptive. I totally celebrated the fact that he found a mother with sincerity, compassion and love. They are blessed and they know it, as it should be. How cool.

I recorded the show. I had to wait until I got time to watch it. Since then I too have watched it several times. I am glad someone is bringing the issue to the forefront especially New York. I hope our birthmothers watch this video. We are all a powerful bunch. Maybe this show will bring them forward.

What show is that? Sounds like I missed a good one.
